Precision Indexing & Positioning Components
Precision Indexing Plungers
Indexing components used for controlled positioning, locating and repeatable adjustment in machinery, fixtures and automation equipment.
Precision Indexing Plungers for Repeatable Positioning
Precision indexing plungers provide a mechanical method for locating, positioning and securing adjustable components. A spring-loaded pin engages with a mating hole or locating point, allowing components to be positioned repeatedly and released when adjustment is required.
Typical Applications
- Jigs and fixtures
- Adjustable machine components
- Assembly equipment
- Positioning mechanisms
- Guards and access components
- Industrial automation equipment
Selecting an Indexing Plunger
Key selection parameters include thread size, pin diameter, stroke, operating configuration, rest position and mating interface.
Where the pin needs to remain retracted during adjustment or changeover, a lock-out configuration may be appropriate.
Mating Interfaces
The indexing pin typically engages with a prepared hole, locating feature or suitable bushing in the mating component.
The mating geometry should be reviewed together with pin diameter, stroke and installation requirements.
Standard & Modified-Standard Requirements
Standard configurations can be reviewed against the required dimensions and application.
Modified-standard requirements such as thread size, pin dimensions, stroke, operating configuration or material requirements can also be reviewed based on feasibility.
